A competition I entered yesterday via Wears The Trousers had a very interesting question, it was "What female artists/bands are you looking forward to hearing this year?" so it got me thinking about it, and there are currently some new bands I am genuinely quite excited to hear more from this year.
First of all The Joy Formidable- who I only discovered last year thanks to the wonders of Last FM, who have been bringing out singles for a few years now, but their debut album "The Big Roar" is due out in a matter of weeks (Jan 24th)
Anna Calvi- who I saw live at Offset festival last year, and despite the tiny crowd, I was convinced we would be hearing more from her- and all of a sudden I have seen her name being mentioned everywhere- including in the NME and as one of the nominees for the BBC's Sound of 2011
her debut album is out in a matter of days on Jan 17th
The Naked and Famous. I hadn't ever heard of this band but I've been listening to a bit of XFM and I kept hearing a song that I really liked but had no idea what it was! I found out it was The Naked and Famous who are bringing out their debut album in February and have also been in several "Sounds of 2011" style lists. This is the song I've been hearing and tend to get stuck in my head!

....and FLIPSIDE BRIDE of course. I hear they're releasing a long awaited debut album this year - which is gonna make everyone stand up and take notice. Ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOhmygoodness. This version of Jezebel is beautiful. I am def an Edith Piaf fan, but this version is amazing for so many different reasons.
