Even though it wasn't the original line up of Hole, in fact Courtney Love was the only original member playing, I felt I couldn't miss out on this gig, what with Courtney Love being one of the biggest female artists out of bands I play on Pigtails, and of course her somewhat riot grrrl attitude!
I went with my friends Carina and Ruth, we decided to queue up outside the venue about half hour before doors opened, and there wasn't too many people there at the time, so once inside we managed to get right to the front.
The first support act was a band called Little Fish. A female fronted punky rock band who I really enjoyed, defintley one to listen out for.
The second support act was Foxy Shazam despite sounding female fronted, and looking a bit girly (apart from the moustache) they weren't and I wasn't too keen on their music either. I'm not sure it was really a good choice for this gig as was expected there was a predominatly female audience, and this band were neither female fronted (let's face it lots of original hole fans love riot grrrl etc) or even remotely grunge-y sounding either.
The new incarnation of Hole came on around 10pm to mass hysteria and cheering, I thought moving a little bit backwards but was so stuffed in between people I had to stay, but it was worth it for the view and awesome photos I got out of it.
Courtney Love, being the unpredictable girl she is, I wondered what this gig would be like, I'd never see the original hole or her solo before, so I wondered if she would live up to the media carticture of her (have you ever noticed on every article about her, they also use some photo where she looks really messed up)? or if she would be all mellowed out, and perhaps a bit boring now, or whether she would be amazing and iconic.
Luckily, she did turn out to be amazing and iconic. As soon as she stepped out onto the stage, I knew she was going to blow us all away. She looked more gorgeous than I could have ever imagined and her voice was on top form as she brought us a blend of new songs and Hole classics, i was especially pleased that she done both "Violet" and "Celebrity Skin."
As for the new "Hole" songs I think they sounded great, back to the original raw, grunge tinged days of Pretty on the Inside, and much better than her solo effort (which I did like to be fair) America's Sweetheart a few years ago, which incidentally she didn't play any of the songs from.
The full set list was this: Pretty On The Inside'/'Sympathy For The Devil' 'Skinny Little Bitch' 'Miss World' 'Honey' 'Violet' 'Letter To God' 'Pacific Coast Highway' 'Reasons To Be Beautiful' 'Nobody's Daughter' 'How Dirty Girls Get Clean' 'Malibu' 'Celebrity Skin' 'Samantha' 'Doll Parts' 'Northern Star' 'Never Go Hungry Again'

Found another one, and this one is a lot less cool so must be quite old- it says it's- songs from the pepsi chart on essex fm and has been recorded over with Pearl Jam! I remember listening to the chart every sunday, and I used to tape the songs I liked did anyone else?
Men in Black- Will Smith oh dear, what can i say? I did really like the film!
Meredith Brooks - Bitch not so shameful, I still listen to his on a regular basis, it's just such a "I'ma girl, and I rock!" song
Spice Girls- Too Much I was such a fan girl! Spice Girls ruled my world until Geri left :( I even saw them at Wembley.
Robbie Williams- Angels I still like Robbie, and despite it being played to death, I still really like this song. It was actually one of Mike's and I's first "special" songs
Janet Jackson- Together Again
not a lot to say about this one, just one I liked at the time
All Saints- Never Ever another girl band I loved, they were the tomboy version of the spice girls and were super cool!
Natalie Imbruglia- Torn
I still like Natalie Imbruglia, but her first album "Left of the Middle" was defintley the best.
Bamboo- Bamboogie had totally forgotten about this one!
Usher- You make me wanna oh god, did I really used to like an Usher song!!??
Saint Etienne- Sylvie still like this band, haven't actually got this song anymore though!
Lutricia McNeal - Ain't That Just The Way I used quite like some soul/swing type music.
Spice girls- Stop told you I was a fangirl! I used to know all the dance moves to this one, and I even remember this clip from TOTP!
chumbawamba- amnesia still a pretty good song! weren't they quite political? Do you suffer from long term memory loss? I don't remember!
Aqua- Doctor Jones a cheesy but quite tongue in cheek band, in case you didn't know, same band that did Barbie Girl!
Spice Girls- Spice up your life and again! This clip is from the film, which I also had!
Cleopatra- Cleopatra's theme more girl bands- see I could have done teeny bop Pigtails and Army Boots!
Savage Garden- Truly Madly Deeply still like this one, a pretty love song <3
Madonna- Frozen I've always liked Madonna, though don't really like her music from the past few years. My favourite album is defintley Ray of Light
celine dion- my heart will go on
can say for sure I don't listen to this anymore, overplayed tosh!
hope this has brought back some memories, it certainly has for me!
I thought it might be fun to blog about music I used to like,(and some I still do)! I was thinking as I still have my old tapes lying about that I would look at those, and write about them, so here we go i've picked one up at random..
Radiohead- Creep- well straight away I can tell this one isn't THAT old, as I still really like this song. In fact, it's the first song I've learnt to play on the ukulele. A total classic, that I think everybody likes.
Supergrass- Moving- 90's britpop, still like this one too! whatever happened to them?
Let Loose- Crazy For you- boyband ballad, but I must admit this might be a guilty pleasure!
R.E.M- Everybody Hurts- also a classic, and I still like though haven't listened to it for ages. I think it's quite comforting when you're feeling a bit low.
U2- Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me- this is probably my favourite U2 song which was on one of the Batman film soundtracks as it's quite rocky. I don't like U2 anymore though, as they have got so pretentious and overated. The older music is much better.
Blur- Country House- 90's indie, still very much like of course!
Seal- Kiss From a Rose- I still like this one! another one from a Batman film i think. The lyrics are quite interesting. "There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea. You became the light on the dark side of me. Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill. But did you know, That when it snows, My eyes become large and The light that you shine can be seen. Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray. Ooh, The more I get of you, The stranger it feels, yeah. And now that your rose is in bloom. A light hits the gloom on the gray."
Bryan Adams- The Only Thing that looks good on me is you- cheesy, but yes i'd still listen to this!
Berlinda Carlisle- In Too Deep- ooh I had forgotten about this song, I might have to play it on Pigtails sometime!
Bon Jovi- Always- another cheesy ballad, I'm more into faster music these days, but still enjou this song.
Paul Weller- You Do Something To Me- a beautiful, sexy song.
Travis- Blue Flashing Light- this was the bonus track on The Man Who and I think is the best song on there, it's totally different from the rest of it, not a ballad.
Mel C- Going down- hmm can tell this is a bit old now! It's weird as when I was younger and loved the Spice Girls, Geri was always my favourite but when they went solo, I liked Mel C's music best, it kinda has a rocky feel to it, hence probably why there's also...
Mel C- Gaga
Sister Hazel- Your Winter- from the 10 things I hate about you soundtrack, one of my favourite films as a teenager, it's actually a guy singing and is another ballad!
Hepburn- Deep Deep Down- I had forgotten about this band too! Think they only had a few hits, a girl band with a bit of edge!
Stereophonics- Bartender and The Thief- still like this one, although not that keen on the stereophonics now, although the album this track i on is pretty good.
