Just realised I never posted anything about the 24 hour smile a thon we had on MTJR on the saturday that just went (the day the clocks went back).
Normal programming was put aside for a day and instead quite a few of the djs took part in just playing 2 hours of happy music to make you smile, as well as attempting to make you laugh and talking about what moment in time would you turn the clock back to if you could? (But only positive ones)! I did a show and this is the playlist:
R.E.M. - Shiny Happy People
The Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division
Le Tigre - I'm So Excited
Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
The Foundations - Build Me Up Buttercup

afterwards I thought of loads of other songs that make me feel happy!
How could I forget the Beach Boys???
and this song always used to cheer me up too...
and what NEVER fails to cheer me up immensely is Rathergood.com!

Pink Stinks!
I found out about this campaign the other day through one of my favourite sites The F Word.
The purpose of Pink Stinks! isn't just about trying to break down gender stereotypes. (have you noticed in toy shops the "girls" section is almost always pink, and they boys bit is blue or somehting similar? Not all girls want to play with Barbie, and not all boys want to play with toy cars)!
It's also about promoting positive role models for girls. Sadly "celebs" like Jordan and Paris Hilton are common choices for young girls to look up to these days. With our current reality show generation, more young people think they just need to get on a t.v show, or perhaps marry someone rich to be worthwhile.
"Pink Stinks!" is challenging that notion, by promoting truely postive role models for women like Annie Lennox, Rosa parks, June Sarpong and many others.
I can think of so many more to add to their list too- Joan Jett, Kathleen Hanna, Amanda Palmer, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Anne Rice, JK Rowling etc etc!
They have a group on facebook and a blog, as well as the main website Pink Stinks!

Paloma Faith
Another new discovery thanks one again to Jools Holland, and also Never Mind the Buzzcocks!
Paloma Faith has been compared to people like Duffy and Amy Winehouse, neither of whom I'm a fan, Paloma Faith might have some similarities to those artists, but she is in my opinion, much more likeable and is a bit mental, which I like! I saw her first on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, I didn't know who she was, but on it she was wearing a very colourful outfit like "a childrens presenter mixed with a bullfighter!" (as described by one of the team leaders) and just seemed a bit odd!
Then I saw her on Jools Holland, thinking I wouldn't like it much as she was dressed up in a posh red cocktail dress and it looked like it was going to be jazz. Well actually I was wrong to base it on first impressions. She had some chairs that she climbed around on during her songs and looked like she was really having fun!
I looked her up afterwards, and she is half spanish and half British. She's also an ex- magicians assistant, as well as being an actress and burlesque performer.
